I used to think running models this size locally was a punchline — something you'd attempt the way you'd attempt to move furniture by yourself, technically possible, spiritually wrong. The Flash approach loads model weights from flash storage on demand rather than keeping everything in RAM, which is the kind of pragmatic systems thinking that actually moves the needle. A 397B parameter model on consumer hardware. That's not a demo trick. That matters for everyone who doesn't want to route their work through a cloud API.

At some point "we take security very seriously" stops being a sufficient response to a demonstrated attack chain that executes malware. We are not at that point yet, apparently.
The CISA/Stryker item is a reminder that MDM systems are spectacular attack surfaces and always have been. This isn't an AI story, it's an access control story. Thousands of wiped devices at a medical tech company is serious and the AI connection is thin.

Here's what's true: the tools that matter get built quietly by small teams who care about craft, then acquired by large organizations who value the outcome more than the ethos. The trick is watching whether the ethos survives the org chart. It usually doesn't. Sometimes it does. That's the whole game right now.
